CO PRINCIPAL and TUTTI CELLO

Applications are invited for suitably qualified musicians for the positions of Co Principal Cello and Tutti Cello. The KZN Philharmonic is a full time professional orchestra based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Previous orchestral experience is essential. Salary package includes six weeks paid leave, medical benefits, settling-in assistance. Applicants must be willing to relocate for a minimum of two years. Unaccompanied J S Bach of own choice -  one movement  only

Section  B:

Haydn D Major Cello Concerto  - first movement plus cadenza

Section  C:  Orchestral Excerpts

Mozart :      Symphony  No.35 -  Finale:  Bars 1 to 37 and bars 134 to 143

Beethoven:      Symphony  No. 5  -  2nd mvt.  Andante con moto:  Bars 1 to 11; 96 to 106; 180 to 195

                     3rd mvt.  Allegro: Bars 96 to 128

Brahms:      Symphony  No.2 -  2nd mvt. Adagio non troppo: Bars 1 to 19 (one bar after A);  50(C) to 52

Smetana:      Bartered  Bride Overture - Beginning to letter A on page 3

Strauss:      Don Juan -  first 8 bars; Letter C to 5 before  D;  Letter E to 7 before  H;  Letter R to S

TUTTI VIOLA AUDITION LIST:

All candidates auditioning for the KZN Philharmonic are required to prepare sections A, B, & C as given below.

A J.S. Bach work of own choice – one movement only.

Section B:

First movement of any concerto of own choice, including Walton or Bartok, etc. (please include cadenza as appropriate)

Brahms:

Please  Note:

1.    Accompanists are not provided and are not essential.  If an accompanist is used it is the total     responsibility of the candidate.

2.            All auditions will be recorded for review and presentation purposes.

3.    The KZNPO does not provide pianos for such accompanists,  except when auditions are held at The     Playhouse, Durban.

4.    For auditions held in Durban, SA, the KZNPO audition  panel will be in attendance.
